Join Sister Darlene Wessling, FSE, to celebrate the hard work of spring and summer and the joy of the harvest by making fresh apple pie using apples grown at the Center. Participants will learn how to make delicious pie crusts and leave with a fresh pie to bake at home.

Mid-winter is a nice time to come home to the aroma of homemade Italian tomato sauce. Join Sister Damien Marie Savino, FSE, ​as she shares her family recipe and provides an experience of making sauce from scratch using home grown tomatoes, garlic, basil, and local beef. Participants will enjoy sipping Italian wine while we work and will go home with their own jar of sauce.

Paczki Making @ Franciscan life Process Center

Since the Middle Ages, Polish people have been known for their paczki, a rich, deep-fried doughnut filled with stewed prunes.  The Tuesday before Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday, became known as Fat Tuesday, as the people tried to use up all the lard, sugar, eggs, and fruit in the home to fulfill Catholic fasting practices.  Today many American cities celebrate Fat Tuesday with paczki, i.e. strawberry, Bavarian cream, blueberry, apple, custard, and raspberry.

 

Come and learn to make the traditional prune-filled paczki with Sister Mary Margaret Delaski, FSE, who will use a recipe handed down for many generations.

Try your hand at making the greatest white or whole wheat buns ever. You can form them into hamburger buns, hot dog buns or beautiful dinner rolls. Sister Ann Frances Thompson, FSE, will share her personal bread recipe. This is a bread that doesn’t require the yeast to be prepared separately!
