drapedfigureThis workshop, focusing on the draped figure, will explore the fundamentals of working from life. Students will learn how to confidently and systematically approach the complexities of the most difficult yet most rewarding of all subjects….the human form. Students will work directly with the live model, first in a series of short alla prima poses focusing on the essential building blocks of art (shape, value, color, edge, and drawing).

The workshop will then move into longer poses focusing on composition/design, concept and color harmony. The knowledge of color harmony is an important step in understanding the relationship between the subject and the surrounding environment. We will also discuss how to successfully use photos to help complete a gallery painting. The course will include demonstrations, group critiques and discussions with as much individual instruction as possible.
