Lori McElrath-Eslick

Artist statement
As a children’s book illustrator, I’ve painted children for different illustrations…as ‘actors’ almost.  And also think of my models differently… as a scene-stealer, also as storytellers.
And as a painter, my goal is to paint faces and places to the best of my abilities and to have an emotional effect for us viewers with the painting. We feel the sun on our faces, we hear the waves in the blue water, and we want to take a walk down the same quiet street.
I love to paint, and want my viewers to feel the paintings as a positive part of a memory they have seen or have had. And in illustration for children’s books I want to let the viewers of the pictures feel the emotions for the story…through colors I choose, and the light on my works.
